Quality Control Technician, B Shift 


Quality Assurance

Reports to

Quality Manager



Technician for quality assurance / quality control department. Provide technical support for all aspects of the RPO ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Provide and analyze statistical data for all manufacturing departments. Provide Root Cause / Corrective Action proposal for non-conforming product. Perform inspection of material and product; create and maintain related records and procedures. Occasionally perform related processes such as product cleaning, sorting, and defect classification. Supports all manufacturing, coating, and assembly operations with receiving inspection, in-process inspection, and final product inspection.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Create sampling plans for specific components from reference material
  • Frequent interaction with engineers and managers to provide updates, answer technical questions, and resolve day to day issues
  • Provide root cause analysis, corrective action proposals, and control of non-conforming product
  • Attend and provide data for manufacturing review board (MRB) meetings
  • Write inspection keycards and procedures from drawings and similar specifications
  • Enter test and inspection results into computerized systems, including labor information
  • Inspection and durability testing of coated optics and interpretation of coating data
  • Sorting of rejected lots
  • Training of individuals in inspection techniques
  • Dimensional inspection using standard hand instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and loupes
  • Visual inspection for cosmetic or functional conditions using appearance standards


Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with inspection of precision optics
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to create inspection plans based on customer documentation
  • Ability to read prints and determine inspection needs and techniques
  • Ability to create project plans and inspection work instructions
  • Ability to interact well with co-workers
  • High tolerance for repetitious inspection and testing
  • Highly proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to use basic mechanical inspection equipment
  • Ability to perform visual cosmetic inspection of product
  • Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident: In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.


Experience/Certifications/Degrees Required:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in statistics or engineering discipline
  • Green belt certification or higher is preferred

Abilities Required:

  • Good manual dexterity
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Good communication skills
  • Blueprint Reading
  • Computer skills

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Highly repetitive work, usually in a fixed body position for a sustained period of time.
  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided.)
    • May be exposed to conditions prevalent in a manufacturing environment such as heat and humidity.
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • Requires initiative and mental concentration to learn new skills and techniques.
  • Safety Glasses are required
  • Exercises independent judgment when inspecting parts acceptability for further operations
  • May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.
  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.

Work Environment:

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • Safety Glasses are required
  • May require area specific safety training
  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.
  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
