Title: Operator Inspector I 

Department: PGM

Reports to: PGM Manager

Precision Glass Molding:

Precision Glass Molding is a unique lens manufacturing technology in the optics industry.  As opposed to the traditional method of grinding and polishing a lens, we use high temperature and pressure to transform a simple lens blank made from optical grade glass, into a more complex lens.  The molding takes place within a specialized machine in a clean, temperature-controlled environment.


Summary of Essential Job Duties:

The person hired for this position will go through a training period and then be responsible for:

  • Loading and unloading the glass molding press
  • Keeping track of daily production totals and data
  • Performing basic lens inspection
  • Taking mechanical measurements (micrometers)
  • Loading lenses into trays
  • Maintaining a clean working environment

  • Basic computer skills
  • Previous Optical Experience a plus but not required


Additional information:

  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing
  • Involves the use of a small amount of solvents
  • Highly repetitive work, usually in a fixed body position for a sustained period of time
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such
  • Requires initiative and mental concentration to learn new skills and techniques
  • Safety Glasses are required
  • Exercises independent judgment when inspecting parts acceptability for further operations
  • Follows procedures for all jobs
  • May require area specific safety training
  • May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)
  • A shift (5 am - 3:15 pm)  
  • B shift (3:15pm - 1:45 am)  60 day training on A shift required prior to going on B shift


Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.


Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.

  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shift from one station to another, during the production process.
